About LMFAO Beauty

Hello, everyone!  I decided to create this page in case anyone was curious about the girl behind the blog.  I hope you find it interesting and feel free to ask any questions or leave any comments below!

Personal Life

Despite my actual name being Megan, most people wind up calling me either Mel or Mellie.  I am a 21 year-old makeup fanatic.  For those of you wondering about my ethnic background, I am 100% Filipino.  I was born and raised in Southern New Jersey, but I am currently working on getting my undergraduate degree in marketing in Philadelphia, PA.  I am already counting down to my graduation in May 2011!  While my idea has always been to get into marketing research after graduation, I am now an open book now that I'm being exposed to more and more real-world situations.  I'm not completely sure of the timing, but I do plan on continuing my education and either getting an MBA or an MS in Marketing Research.

My household consists of my mother, father, and younger brother.  He's younger than me by four years and even though we have our differences, we always have a fun time together.  I also have a pet female betta fish named Star Foxy.  She's probably the friendliest fish you'll ever know--she swims right up to you as soon as you see her!  To keep Star Foxy company, I hope that upon graduating and moving out I'll be able to get a kitten.

I think that I've got a really great group of friends in my life right now, collected from all of my travels and experiences.  I'm glad that I have a group that I know I can trust and depend on when I need them.  I'm also glad that they trust me enough to let me into their lives and share in it with them.  Though I know that I have a great circle already, I'm always up for meeting new people and making new friends.

Not that I really think anyone would be wondering, but if you haven't gathered already by some of my posts, I am a taken woman!  I've been dating my boyfriend since June 10, 2009.  Although our relationship is (at the moment) a long distance romance, we've really been making it work.  I feel blessed to have his love and companionship in my life and I'm looking forward to more adventures together.

At the moment, I am employed by the business solutions software company, SAP.  I have been working here as an intern in the Custom Development department since late May 2010.  I have also worked on the side since December 2010 as a contributing editor to a website called B2C Marketing Insider.  Through these two opportunities, I'm looking forward to learning a lot more things about the business world and marketing as a whole.

Other Hobbies and Interests

I like to think of myself as one that loved to create.  I remember when I was younger, my favorite things to do were to color, draw, paint, and sculpt.  This elementary school love of fine arts had me taking a few art lessons after school and making the most of weekly in-school art classes.  My friends and family were very supportive of me, and when I went to high school I decided that I would concentrate a lot more on my artwork.  I took several classes throughout the course of my time in high school and my artwork has been featured in a few exhibitions and state galleries.  Some of my pieces have even been given awards.

In the late 1990s and the early 2000s, I began to dabble in the world of anime, manga, and Asian culture as a whole.  I began to become more and more interested in the Eastern way of life and desired to get more in touch with my Filipino roots.  I became deeply involved with Asian music, namely Korean music.  It was at this point that I became a member and then a moderator (Stamp Collection, Online Dating Service, and I've Been Photoshopped) of the late Shinhwa Sarang (now Shinhwa.biz) forum.  It was during my time here that I picked up a penchant for graphic design.  I taught myself how to use Adobe Photoshop and was taught Dreamweaver, Fireworks, and Flash in high school.  I began to start building my own websites and designing graphics and other digital art for fun.  Though my interest in the topics that sparked this learning have waned, my interest in graphic design lived on.  For a while, I even considered graphic design as a possible career path.

My interest in the arts was not just confined to visual arts, however.  I always enjoyed writing and authored several short stories, poems, and works of fan fiction.  I was a part of my high school's literary magazine, In Relief, and became the art editor in my senior year.  Although my involvement with my university's literary magazine, Grimoire, has been very minimal, I did have some of my work published during my freshman year and I am looking to get a few more published before I graduate in May 2011.

While I was able to cultivate my skills a little bit more in high school, I came to the realization that the arts were more of a hobby for me than something in which I wanted a career.  I still wanted fine arts to be a part of my life, but I knew that there was something else that I wanted to pursue.  When the time came to apply to colleges my senior year in high school, I decided to enter as a marketing major to try and use my creativity in a business-related way.  This might seem a little bit strange for someone that has been so involved with the arts in the past, but my analytical and inquisitive side won over.  I was too interested in the psychological processes surrounding consumer behavior and the statistics and analytics related to trends to write it off completely.  This is why I chose marketing--a major that I thought would give me the ability to put both my creative and analytical sides to work.

When I'm not at work, dabbling in art, writing, playing with makeup, or studying my life away, there are some other things I like to do.  I love baking--especially cupcakes and cookies.  I wish that my cooking skills were as strong as my baking skills, but I'm looking to improve them in the future.  I also enjoy reading--especially nonfiction and poetry.  Another thing I enjoy doing is playing video games and some of my favorites are The Sims, Animal Crossing, Harvest Moon, Cooking Mama (easy games, ftw!), Super Mario (Paper Mario is my favorite), Pokemon (but only the originals, haha.  I didn't bother keeping up past the original 150), and The Legend of Zelda (gamers will hate me, but I think Windwaker was adorable).  These aren't really hobbies, but I am absolutely in love with Hello Kitty and the color pink.
